Passports
The Clerk of the District Court also serves as a Passport Agent. https://travel.state.gov/content/travel.html.
Passports applications are accepted in the Office of Clerk of the District Court. Appointments are not required but a phone call is suggested if it is over the lunch hour or more than 4 applicants.
For First Time Application – Applicants will need:
- DS-11 application form (available in the office or on the U S Department of State website) – https://travel.state.gov/content/travel.html
- Certified state issued birth certificate (or naturalization papers). If you do not have a Nebraska birth certificate, https://dhhs.ne.gov/pages/vital-records.aspx.  If you do not have a South Dakota birth certificate. https://doh.sd.gov/licensing-and-records/vital-records/order-vital-records/
- One passport photo (photography services available in this office for a fee of $15.00 or available at Walgreens, Wal-Mart)
- Driver’s license or picture id
- If you provide an out of state drivers license, we will need to also have secondary identification documents such as work or industrial identification card; school or college identification card; expired drivers license. .Each form of identification requires a photograph that readily identifies the applicant, the person’s signature, and must not be altered or changed in any way.
- Payment may be made by personal check or money order. Separate payments are needed for each passport fee and for the execution fee. Credit cards are not accepted.
- DS-11s are executed before an acceptance agent at the Cedar County District Court Clerks office. Â
Online Passport Renewal (OPR):
- Online Passport Renewal (OPR) is now available to the American public. Applicants who meet the requirements can now renew their passports online at their convenience and from the comfort of their own home. Applicants can see a full list of requirements at travel.state.gov/en/passports/renew-replace/online.html
- Passport renewals in many instances can be done by the applicant using form DS-82 available on – https://travel.state.gov/content/travel.html or the Cedar County Clerk of District Court office. Â
It’s still important for applicants to plan and apply for their passport well in advance of travel for both OPR and regular mail-in passport renewal service.
